Mysore is a beautiful city, which lies about 146 km southwest of Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. With a population of 799,228 (2001 census), it is the second largest city in the state of Karnataka. It was also rated the second cleanest city in India in 2010 and the cleanest in Karnataka.

The tourist spots in Mysore attract thousands of visitors every year. Some places are quite popular among the tourists who come to visit this city of India. Some of the major places of interest in the city Mysore Palace, Ranganathaswamy Temple, Chamundeshwari Temple, Amba Vilas Palace, Brindavan Gardens, Jami Masjid, etc.

Mysore always witness a moderate climate. The summer season is from March to June, followed by the monsoon season from July to November and the winter season from December to February.  The highest temperature recorded in Mysore was 38.5 °C on May 4, 2006, and in winter, temperatures as low as 9.6 °C have been recorded. The average annual rainfall received by the city is 798.2 mm (31 in).

Dussehra is celebrated in Mysore with great enthusiasm every year. Another important festival, celebrated in Mysore is Yugadi. Other than these two festivals, Mysore also celebrates the national festivals of Independence day, Republic day and Gandhi Jayanti. Religious festivals like Makara Samkramana, Sri Ramanavami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami, Christmas, Eid-ul-Fitr, etc. are also celebrated with great joy and harmony.
